What is Sugaring?:
Sugaring is a gentle, but effective, form of hair removal that only uses 3 ingredients: sugar, water, and citric acid (often in the form of lemon juice). This water soluble paste is extremely effective at removing all types of hair all while being gentle on the skin.
Sugaring is an ancient practice originating in Persia and is still practiced throughout the region today.
Benefits of Sugaring:
Less irritating than waxing.
Because of the minimal natural ingredients lower reactivity to the paste
Since it is a water soluble paste it cannot lift your live skin cells and will allow skin to retain its natural moisture.
Many clients have found that sugaring hurts less than waxing since there is no burning and the paste only adheres to hair and dead skin cells so less pulling and stripping the skin of its natural moisture.
Sugaring has a very easy clean up process-all you need is a hot wet towel or hot water to remove the paste from skin, clothes and furniture.
No Chance of burning. In order for the paste to be functional it must remain at a certain temperature- if it is too hot, it cannot be lifted which means there is no way for us to burn you.
Lower environmental impact:
Sugaring has a very low environmental impact since the paste is completely plastic/resin free and biodegradable and dissolves in water.
Here at Nourish Noir we also use 100% biodegradable gloves to lower our environmental impact and take care of the planet we love.
More effective hair removal and refinement:
With consistent sugaring hair will thin out-growing back softer and thinner and sometimes not growing back at all. The sugar paste is molded to enter the hair follicle, wrap itself around the hair and rip it out from the root. This exfoliates the follicle walls (aka the house the hair lives in) making it smaller after each service. This leads to the hair growing out thinner and thinner over time- this is called Hair Refinement. Sugaring is an excellent way to change the way your hair grows.
Sugaring can pick up smaller hairs- hairs only need to be a 1/4 inch long (about the size of a long grain of rice) to be extracted by the sugar paste. Because the paste is more gentle on the skin than wax, we can go over the same area multiple times resulting in a smoother finish.
FAQ:
How long does sugaring last? How often should I get sugared?
Our hair grows in cycles. It takes about two weeks for the hair to regenerate and emerge from the skin and another two weeks for it to grow long enough (the length of a grain of rice) to be removed.
Because our hair grows in cycles it can take a few months of consistent sugaring to achieve long lasting and smooth results.
Is my hair long enough? Should I trim or shave?
We can sugar hair as long as it is at least a quarter of an inch long. Lower hair is totally fine but can be slightly more uncomfortable as you may feel it as we apply the sugar. We don’t generally recommend trimming or shaving prior to your appointment.
Can I get sugared on my period?
Yes - this does not affect our ability to remove hair from your bits.
How can I prepare before my appointment? What should I wear?
Comfortable, soft materials/fabrics. Loose fitting clothing.
Avoid shaving or trimming if possible
What should I know about aftercare?
Do not use a physical or chemical exfoliant for 2-3 days after you have been sugared. Keep the skin hydrated. Wear comfy or loose fitting soft fabrics.
Are there things I should avoid after getting sugared?
Sex, We know :( boooooo! But its super important to give your skin a chance to recover from sugaring.
Jacuzzis (hot tub folliculitis)
Friction (clothing, skin on skin)
Excessive sweating
The above should be avoided for 24 hours
